ACKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!

Life gave me a nudge while I was on my way home. Hinatid ko si JJ ng tingin habang pasakay siya ng bus. All of a sudden, screeching tires were heard along Pasong Tamo. When I turned to see where the noise came from, there it was, a blur — in slow motion: the delivery guy ramming into the green Mazda, food splattering on the asphalt, a girl screaming “oh my gawd,” horns blaring, the delivery flying across the hood of the car, landing on the road, helmet tumbling across the street, and me… frozen and shocked at the unforseen event.
I immediately crossed the street and helped the poor guy up. He couldn’t get up that easily after the impact of the motorcycle. He first felt his back, winced at the pain, felt his left leg, pulled up his pants and there it was! A big gushing cut gushing bubbly blood. While I was busy feeling pity and scared for this person, the driver of the car retorted, “Itabi na natin to. Nakaharang tayo sa kalsada.” I immediately shouted (being the discreet person that I am.) “Eh tangina mo pala eh! Wag kang gagalaw jan tutulungan ko lang to!” Shocked, the guy just stood there, watching as I helped the delivery guy up. I whispered to him that no matter what happens he must demand to be taken to the hospital for tests to be done. Who knows? There could be more damage than just scratches on the poor guys leg. When the delivery guy was able to stand up, I talked to the driver and told him that it was his duty to take this guy to the hospital for tests, and also pay for all expenses in the hospital. He sstood there dumbfounded, staring at me. I signaled for the Export Bank guards to radio for the Police. Five minutes later, pulis-patola looking cops arrived at the scene. The policemen asked if I was involved in the accident. I said no, and explained that I was a concerned citizen who was willing to put into account what I had witnessed. Everything seemed all right. The delivery guy was walking around, testing his motor skills (no pun intended). I whispered and insisted that he demand to be taken to the hospital for tests to be conducted.

Satisfied with all that I had seen, I walked away from the scene (which quickly attracted a lot of usiseros) feeling happy for being able to provide assistance when it was most needed.

A thought came into my head: I once dreamed of getting a big, high powered sportsbike as a means of transportation. I couldn’t imagine myself being in the place of the delivery guy. I promised myself that I will never ever buy or borrow or be conned into driving a motorcycle. Heck, I can’t even afford a bike, how much more a motorcycle! However, when I am filthy rich and powerful, I’ll get my own car and have a driver drive me to work. =]

Cab of the Day: Wynona and Zachary
The cab driver witnessed the event as well. He was disgusted at the attitude, rudeness and insensitivityof the mazda-driver. Blah! Drivers like the mazda driver don’t even deserve to drive a car. He should be banned in the streets. After all, it was his fault that a man almost died.
