Puerto Galera with Nina, Joy, Chumchum and Caloy Pt. 1

The excitement of going out of town with Nina started almost a month before our departure for Puerto Galera. Yes, PG is not a fab a place as Boracay, but the thought of being in a place accessible only by boat was thrilling to me, much more being there with my hunny. *smirk*

So Thursday night, I went straight to MegaMall to meet with Nina, Joy, and her other sisses. We weren’t as many as we thought we would be. Nevertheless, I already confirmed our trip with my contact there. Most of the people we thought who were sure to come backed out. The only person who was 100% sure that she was going was Joy. I thought what the hell? We planned this trip for weeks only to cancel it because there were too few of us? So I said I was going even if it was only NIna and myself (which was originally the plan). On our way home, we passed by a liquor shop and bought a liter of tequila for the trip. Upon arrival at home we started packing and getting ready. Chumchum was at home of course, fiddling with the computer. She didn’t want to come along but Nina, Joy, and I managed to force her to come. We also decided to just wait out the 5am bus to Batangas. At a quarter to 5, Joy was already there. We left home a little before 5 am to go to the bus terminal. 15 minutes later, we were on our way to Batangas Pier for the ferry ride to PG. The bus ride was uneventful. We just slept through the whole trip.

Leaving Batangas PierWe reached Batangas Pier at around 8am. The Pier entrance was flooded with people and vendors. The vendors said there were no more trips to PG because Storm Signal Number 1 was raised. According to the boatmen, trips were going to resume at 11am. The three ladies I was with waited outside, while I waited inside the office for news. At around 9:30am, the Pier Administrator announced that all trip to PG were cancelled! We were dumbfounded! We talked it over and decided to go outside the Pier (since there were colorum boats being offered earlier). Outside the Pier, a seaman from the boat M/V Brian asked us if we were going to PG. We were delighted beyond belief! We waited as they arranged for a jeepney ride to the other side of the Pier where their boat was waiting. So around 30 minutes later, we were sitting on the ferry, waiting for the boat to reach it’s maximum sitting capacity. We left Batangas Pier at around 10am.
Ferry RideThe ferry ride was uneventful as well. The waves were a little big and a lot of people (who didn’t know how to swim) panicked and clutched their life jackets tightly. The trip went on for an hour and 15 minutes. We reached PG safely. We were welcomed by Ate Ailyn (my PG contact). The three ladies I was with were surprised that she had a welcome thingy saying “Welcome KC and Friends!”. ‘Twas cool. Oh, did I mention that Ate Ailyn kept calling us by the hour asking what was happening on the Pier and giving us advice on where to go and who to talk to? She also called me a couple of times while we were at the ferry. She sounded so concerned about our welfare (later on, she will prove to be a big help to us during our stay, but I’ll get to that later). We were then ushered to our reserved room. It was a neat room. Not too big, not too small, not far from the sea side. It had air-conditioning, a TV, bathroom, and a couple of beds. Ate Ailyn said the room rate for the entire stay was Php 3,500.00 per night for the whole weekend. Joy haggled and got the room for only 2,800.00, with a deal that we were going snorkling the following day. We shook hands, paid the bill, and wriggled to our swimming attire.

The waves were not that big. It was actually fun getting slammed by the waves. There was a little drizzle but that did not stop us or the other people from frolicking in the beach or in the water. After a quick dip in the sea, we went and grabbed some chow. I don’t really remember what we ate, but it sure was sumptious, plenty, and expensive! After that we were back in our room to get some sleep.

We woke up from our slumber at around 9pm. We felt recharged (and still quite full from our 3pm lunch) and ready to party! So we all donned our party gear and getup and went out by the beach for a night of booze. It was raining quite hard but that too didn’t stop the party goers from getting drunk. Not many bars were open and we decided to go to the bar nearest to our hotel room. This was my second time in PG, while Nina, Joy, and Chum were first timers. If there was one thing I learned on my first visit, it was the Mindoro Sling Ritual… meaning if it’s your first time in PG, you have to get drunk with Mindoro Sling. I ordered a pitcher of the notorious booze and quickly handed out shots to everyone. As the night went on, the winds howled, and the slight drizzle continued beating down the roof, we got more and more drunk until we finished two more pitchers. Good thing we had a few CD’s that we burned from Sophie. I remember us dictating the bar DJ what to play. After we finished the third pitcher, we had them play Reggae Music. Chumchum and I started dancing with Joy and Nina (who had been dancing since the first pitcher!). I guess dancing to Bob Marley’s beats got me more drunk. Before we went back to our room, Chumchum and I vomitted our guts out (ewww, red crap! lol).

We got up at around 9am. Nina and I went out and grabbed breakfast at a nearby restaurant. I had two sunny sideup eggs, two strips of bacon, one cup of rice, one Roesti, and two cups of coffee. Nina had the cornedbeef meal and a daing meal. She looked so famished so I let her order. Halfway into her cornedbeef meal she quit eating. She said she felt full already. I laughed. We enjoyed our yosi together, paid the bill, then brought the neglected daing back to our room. When we got back, Joy was up and about (apparently looking for us) and Chumchum was already awake. We suggested another hour or so for a dip in the raging beach. We got dressed while Chumchum and Joy ate the daing.

The waves that day were really raging. The current was really strong, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the sea water. I remember Joy being eaten alive by some big-assed wave. When she finally resurfaced, she was almost naked (considering that she was already half-naked, wearing a hot two-piece suit). I helped her back to the shore and charged again for the water. Nina was content with just picking up stones… white stones that is.
