The Organization called “Anne Rice Philippines”

Written on 3/11/2007 – 3:40 pm | by keysinunez.com | 2,602 Views

I chanced upon a post in Maya’s blog and was caught by a name: Anne Rice.

Dear Maya, please forgive me for writing my opinion here. I agree with everyone out there that Anne Rice is the shit when it comes to writing, but I also believe that there are other writers out there who deserve more praise… much more praise.

Click, click and I was at their website. I know that we shouldn’t judge individuals right away, much more an organization, but, I read a few lines and was instantly LMAO.

Check it out:

Lo & behold I was proven wrong and hooked no doubt to her rapturous account and visceral storytelling of a confused soul and in his search for meaning in his life by way of Anne’s prose and imagery. Soon I found myself on the same quest as Louis, hoping to find the meaning of the different facets of my life and equally in the search of one who can mentor me in these matters. Little did I know that apart from an existentialist influence on me, Anne’s play and confluence of words and symbolism was slowly cultivating and nurturing my love for writing and for the written word as well. And in yielding to this love, a brand new search has taken the place anew of one that now encompasses the myriad areas of philosophy, history, architecture, religion, aesthetics, and every other form of information that I can get my hands on. -source

I used to write like this, believe it or not. I’m not claiming to be better than them, I just saw myself several months ago.

I have to thank a certain person: my English Geek and editor, who took her time reading (and badmouthing) my work, correcting each sentence and grammatical error. I learned a lot from her, and would be glad to learn more if only things turned out differently.

Like the members of Anne Rice Philippines, I too was influenced by Anne Rice’s writing. Her weight on my writing style’s so heavy that my editor never failed to tell me that I wrote (and still write) like a girl. While it’s good to be descriptive and visual, big-fucking-words like the ones used above only confuse readers.

My take? Keep it simple. Use big-fucking-words only if it’s the exact right word for your sentence. You readers aren’t as smart as they claim to be. They don’t have a dictionary in their pockets either. What’s the point of confusing your market? bash bash bash

Oh and before I forget, I’ve been a fan of Vampires since the early 90’s. Anne Rice never led or introduced me to them. All she did was provide me a better description of them.

Disclaimer: I’m not a good writer. I’m just a writer. The reason why I blog is because I like writing. I’m glad someone taught me early on. Otherwise, I would still be writing like that *points above then LOL*.

To Anne Rice Philippines, take my advice:
1. Fix your website. It fucking sucks. It’s even blasphemous. Gads~
2. Edit the “Musings” part, you know what, while you’re at it, edit everything! Keep it simple.
3. Frames are so last century. Think of something new. You can afford hosting but you can’t afford to improve the layout and content? Rawr~
4. Your organization bears the name of a great writer. Have some decency and at least come up with content worth reading (don’t forget to check your grammar!)
5. Believe me, Coven of the Articulate is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay of a long shot.
6. If you can’t do anything about your web-ugly-site, then disband. You bring Shame to Anne Rice. Oh, if you don’t want to disband, just delete your website. It’s goddamn blasphemous.

Gads~

nah, i respect your opinion. this is your blog anyway. i think it's an honest opinion.

i'm not a writer and i don't write like that (and it's quite obvious in my blog). it's just that, we happen to find the same interest in vampires and we all love her works. sad to say, i am too lazy to read books. only her works interest me.

for the site? ANDITO NA AKO! i should make use of what my current profession is... web deconstruction, d ba?

fucker ka keysi, you got me.

yeah, you got it right up there. lol. while it's alright to use *big* and *descriptive* words for effect, writers should be wary of the reality that there's a fine line between giving vivid descriptions and ending up pointlessly verbose.

it's always safe to reserve those deep, lyrical words for poetry and direct, not too deep, not too lyrical ones for prose.

    two thumbs up kuya asado.

Maya: peace, peace~ :P yes, we all like her literature. Feed: *apir* I think they're on the right track. They just have to drop the big words. Sana merong someone from Anne Rice Philippines na makabasa, except Maya. :P

what all I can say is the definition of a good writer is opinion-based rather than a standard-based. I mean Bob Ong might be the best writer for me and should deserve the best and highest praise in my opinion but not to you. It's just so happened they like Anne Rice that they made a cultgroup. Haha but I do agree with the website design crap. They should hire a web designer, If I were them or I guess at least learn more about HTML and CSS? lol

anyways, I just want you to know that I already liked you up. (sorry for the late reply)

    XD

PS. if the strike didn't work, please edit this comment. :3

hahaha bati tayo noh. na-miss ko lang murahin ka.. ay, tsaka si rain. i dunno what it takes to be a member, probably join the mailing list first (which i've already done). i'll talk to the guy who handles the website. want me to show them your blog? i'm just wishing it wouldn't cause any trouble, since i'm just a newbie to the group.

Rozeh: point taken. i've no qualms with creating a cultgroup, sana lang ayusin nila yung content. nakakairita eh. heeeee~ Maya: hehehe. alam ko na naman na bati tayo. mwehehe~ ayan namura mo na ko. siguro kelangan mo lang silang ituro sa tamang direksyon. hindi naman kelangan na maging magarbo sa pagsusulat. lol.

you got what you wanted - an Anne Rice Phlippines member reading this post.

It must be cool to make other people feel bad. You seem to enjoy it very much. And it increases the number of your views.

I can tell that you're a perfect person with tastes and skills beyond measure. You must be very proud of what you can do. Your English teacher must be very proud of what you've become.

To each his own, my friend. Thank you for your interest and passion towards Anne Rice Philippines. May life be fair to you.

PS: Sorry for my grammar. I'm not even a writer.

hi Lynn, I can't say that I never expected someone from Anne Rice Philippines to post a comment (or spam this site). Believe it or not, I was merely trying to say that you guys should update your site. I mean, to carry the name of a best selling author means that you should at least live up to the expectations of would-be browsers to your website. Since you're a group dedicated to Anne Rice, you should at least check the content of your website. Ask yourself if your content is readable. If it is, then good job! Then again, this website is full of opinion. If you feel that I'm bashing you here, then feel free to bash me in your website para quits. lol.

After reading an Anne Rice novel, even my thinking sounds like that. Ang lakas ng hook niya eh.

The website reminds me of the ones I used to go to in the 90s and early 200_. It's been a long time since I last read an AR novel, but if they fix the website, I might still be tempted to join. lol.

Btw, you sound like a nicer Sarah Silverman. :)

Hey Ann! Thanks for dropping by. I would've joined the group if not for the layout. :D Lemme know if you've joined though~ :D
