Linking and Deep Linking: The Differences
Linking is considered to be one of the vitals in SEO, however there are three types of links:
1. Link
2. Deep Link
Links are when you link to the top most level of a domain (for example, this great site linking to Ajay), while Deep Linking is when you link to older posts on your blog. Obviously, we do not have control over what readers link to. By posting links to your old posts, you inform your readers the past articles that they may have missed reading.
For example, back in 2005, I posted a rather short article on the UAAP Cheerdance Competition Winners. This was when the hype was all over Undernet. LOL. Believe it or not, this is one of the most popular posts in this blog.
There’s no point in linking to older posts that are not related to the post that you are writing. We should make sure that the information that we provide our readers really benefit them. There’s no point in posting about the 2006 UAAP Cheerdance Competition Winners in this post since this isn’t about UAAP or cheerdancing, ain’t it? LOLOLOLOL Well, whatever, as long as the post is seamless and flowing, and as long as it doesn’t affect the readership of your blog, then go ahead and start Deep Linking.
Lastly, there are lots of aggregators out there. Most of these aggregators copy all the text and links in your RSS Feed, so by the time that the aggregators publish your post, you have backlinks galore!
Obviously, we all can see the importance of Deep Linking. It helps not only the blog owner, but the reader as well. So all in all Deep Linking helps in your SEO and overall rank of your blog.
In this post alone, I have made one link to my site, one line to my RSS Feed, and three deep links to my other older articles. Surely I’ll get more love from Google this time~ How about you?
