On Gundam Model Kits
I’m back to being a kid again!
A few weeks ago I bought the GAT-X252 on a whim. Nina and I were at the Podium. We were supposed to go to THE SPA. See, one of my bestest friends gave us two gift certificates for Executive massages for our wedding (nope, the wedding post is still being completed, so no article yet). Unfortunately, due to some complications, we weren’t able to avail of it, so we settled for a snack at Lord Stow’s instead. While, Nina was munching on her Chicken Supreme sandwich, I lazily browsed through the toys on display at the Toy Kingdom. Only one thing caught my eye: The GAT-X252 kit priced at only 400 pesos. Normally, I’d stray away from these types of hobbies. Not only are they expensive, but they also take up time, effort and patience. Seeing as I couldn’t resist the urge to spend on something that I can see everyday, I hastily purchased the kit.
When we finally made it home, I excitedly started putting everything together. After about 45 minutes, I was done — but disappointed. Not only was the kit small, but it had limited movements and boring colors as well. Needless to say, I spent money on something that I was sure that I was going to enjoy, but ended up sulking. Masturbation would have been time well spent as compared to putting a 1/144 scale model together.
It started that day. I became obsessed because the kit that I purchased sucked.
What happened in the next few days? Nothing. Until we got our bonuses and a friend purchased a Master Grade version of the Gundam Big Brother, otherwise known as GP02A. I was envious. Not just envious, but E.N.V.I.O.U.S.! The Gundam fire in me started burning brighter and hotter again, and I began browsing Wasabi Toys for their available models. I spent four hours browsing their site until I managed to open all the links related to Gundam Kits. Finally, I couldn’t resist the urge any longer so I trotted to the department store for a quick Gundam fix. I decided on a Master Grade Strike Freedom Gundam.
Several minutes of brisk walking later, I was gawking at the models that they had on display. Too bad. No Master Grade Strike Freedom. No Aile Strike as well. They had a Strike Noir, but it sucked because it was too small (I figured small = minimal poses). All the Master Grade models they had were mostly Zaku models. They had a couple of Perfect Grade kits, but these kits were definitely way over my budget.
In order to satisfy this urge to put together a Gundam kit, I settled for a High Grade kit instead. It took me a while before I chose to get the Blitz model (I was choosing between Strike Freedom and Blitz). I had reasons why I wanted Strike Freedom. Blitz was never in my list, but I ended up buying it instead.
Top 3 Reasons why I wanted the Strike Freedom kit:
1. Good color combination
2. The wings look great folded or extended
3. Lots of great poses because of the wings (if you had a base)
Top 3 Reasons why I didn’t buy the Strike Freedom kit:
1. The wing size makes him look awkward
2. Difficult set poses because
3. No base included
Top 3 Reasons why I bought the Blitz kit:
1. Better colors than Strike Freedom
2. Cool weaponry
3. Well-balanced stance
I couldn’t wait to get home to start putting together the kit, but before I started, I customized it a bit by applying dull lacquer paint to the parts for a matte finish. All in all, it took my 5 hours to put everything together. Unlike my experience with the GAT-X252, Blitz was extremely gratifying, and to tell you the truth, I smile every time I look at it. Fulfilling? Yes.

LOL. Deathscythe rocks man, so does Epyon. I'm not much of a fan of the wing series. I'm mostly a Strike/Zeta person.

Yes.. You can get MG for around 7K while PGs go around for 11K or more.

I started collecting gundam model kits just a week ago. I bought 2 kits but not the perfect upgrade ones. Anyone knows where to buy , paints and air brushes to further enhance gundam's appearance. And gundam markers? I have tried (my darnest effort) to look for a store where I can avail such materials. Please email me at casey_2738@yahoo.com.... perfect grade gundam strike freedom really knows me off my feet**** the price too**** too bad****
