8 Tips to a Fast Promotion and a Lucrative Career in a Call Center

Here it is! Without further ado, I present to you Keysi Nunez’s Eight Tips to a Fast Promotion and a Lucrative Career in a Call Center.

Don’t be late!

1. Perfect Attendance - no matter what you do, this is the first thing that managers look at. Do you have perfect attendance? How many times have you been late? How many times have you been absent? Are you adhering to your schedule? Do you follow your break and lunch schedules? Are you abusing your AUX usage?

2. Stats and Metrics - Do you have the numbers? Are you meeting your targets? Perhaps the most important question here is this: Are you able to balance your metrics? An agent that successfully balances his/her metrics catches the eye of the manager/directors.

Did you put shit in my coffee again?

3. Attitude and Maturity - You should ask yourself, How does my manager think? Do I act like an agent or do I act like a manager? Do I have an open mind? Do I listen to rumors and gossip in the office? Am I a frequent PEX (Pinoy Exchange) reader? Do I get affected with process and policy shifts? How do I deal with process shifts that impact me directly? Am I responsible enough to deliver the numbers? Do the stats of the site concern me?

4. Appearance - This was one of the reasons why my promotion was delayed. Check your haircut. Check you nails. Check your shoes. Are they shined? Do you still dress like a college student? Do you come to work in slippers? Are you presentable? If there was an impromptu meeting with the Site Director, do you think you’re dressed decently enough to talk at the same level as him?

Business Attire

5. Vision - What are your goals? Where do you want to be a year from now? Are your goals S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Acceptable, Realistic, Time-Bound)? What are your long term and short term goals? How will you achive your goals? Do you have specific Action Plans?

6. Flexibility - Am I okay with short-notice process and policy shifts? Am I okay from being transferred from one project to another as the need arises? Am I a positive thinker? Can I drop one project and start a new one in just a snap of the finger?

7. Good Working Relationships - Is your career built on stepping other people’s toes just to achieve your goal? You should value your co-workers because there are times when the Management asks for feedback from other people about your performance and attitude. They want to get to know you from another person’s point of view. Do not ever burn bridges. You will never know when a person will be able to help you. Your best is your bestfriend. Your boss has the power to terminate you, grant you paycheck increases, approve your overtime, and most important of all, your boss has a certain amount of control over your career. See, if you’re not in good terms with your boss, no matter how good a tech you are, other managers will not notice you. But if you have a good working relationship with your boss, then get ready because your boss can pave the way towards a bright road to success.

Flexibility defined

8. Proactiveness, Initiative, and Ingenuity - I’m going to be honest. Even if you have all of the above, you will never get the position if the managers do not know you. What better way to gain popularity and leverage than to be proactive. Being proactive is about doing something without your boss ever having to ask you. It’s like pre-empting or reading your boss’ mind. Initiative is all about having a keen eye. If you see that something is not working right, fix it already. If you see a hole in the company’s policy, write a proposal to modify/enhance it. If you see that you can improve a tool’s performance, by all means, get your hands dirty. There’s only about 1% of the total agent population who has this trait. Be proactive and you’ll surely catch the management’s eye.

There you go! eight great tips to a great career. Everything I wrote here is based on my experiences. I’m not claiming to be the most successful asshole at work, but I’m certainly proud of getting where I am in just a short span of time.

Do you have similar experiences? Do you have other tips in building a career? Do you know of other ways of getting promoted fast (without having to give numerous blowjobs)? Leave me a message!

Fuck, with my record-breaking high AHT & absences, I'm so doomed. Plus the fact that I hardly schmooze to kiss ass. Then I'd keep myself isolated in some workstation nearest the water cooler, wall clocks, & exit. Then I'd exhibit ditzy grrly nail art in shocking blue or red. I also go to work in flipflops, & I don't smile a lot. Sometimes I don't do my job as the POC for our English-only policy & noise control HAHAHA. Then I cuss to high heavens when I have the chance to press [mute] while talking to a belligerent customer. But I know I've contributed a lot to the program & garnered constant excellent quality ratings. Le sigh.
