Teach Me Japanese!

I’ve been into Anime for several years now. Didn’t have a problem with anime and manga save for the grammatical errors and incorrect translations until One Piece. I finally finished catching up to the manga version. I used to just watch the anime, until Benito stopped his rations. I was then forced to go manga. Frankly, reading through each episode is nothing compared to anime, simply because the visual experience is more gratifying.

Anyway, I started at the 100-ish issue and read everything up until Chapter 494. Just imagine all those hours of un-productivity. Almost every issue has several grammatical errors. Some to the extent of not making any sense at all.

Example:

One Piece - Gecko Moria

Another:

One Piece - Skeleton

And another:

Chapter 319 - The Admiral of the Marine Headquarter, Blue Pheasant

Yet another:

United Primates

Heck, my seven year old niece can come up with way better sentences. It makes me think if these (translators/cleaners) people are translating the shit correctly (Apologies, I cannot find the chapter where you can find the most unintelligible grammatical error I’ve seen in these chapters).

Forgive me, I’m just rambling. I have no right to complain because I’m just reading free shit online, but heck, Dattebayo seldom had grammatical errors in their subs for Naruto. It’s funny how the Dattebayo staff picked up Haters because of their strict policy and guidelines in IRC. It was like #UP in undernet a few years back. I think that it’s just fair that the staff of Binktopia, FrankyHouse, Basement, kokotas, KaNx, Obxist, Mangashare, etc., refine their translations in order to provide better quality manga to the public. I mean, if you’re going to do something, please do it right.

So out of disgust for grammatical errors and unintelligible babble, I need to learn Japanese ASAP. I know someone who can probably teach me, but last I heard, she’s in Cebu. So yeah. If you know anyone, please leave a comment. I’m tired of just making do with this free shit. If I can just read and write in Japanese, I’d probably start my own Scanlations group. Scanlations with spanking right grammar and zero typographical errors.

There are workshops this summer in our school. I also suggest buying the volumess of Minna No Nihonggo (what they use in Japan to learn Nihonggo). I think there is a seller on Ebay.ph the last time I was browsing.

    Hope this helps! ^_^

Easiest way out (without the pain of learning 1000 kanji to understand manga) is to buy the translatated ones in Powerbooks for 200 or so bucks. They'll be grammatically correct. That's for sure.

@_@ It sucks reading manga scans with bad English. Not like I'm good at English, but at least I know what's grammatically wrong. They probably do not have quality-checkers and just release the scans as soon as edits are done. :/ I'm in several scanlation groups and we try hard to make every sentence "grammatically" right.

I started learning some Japanese by myself. It's not too hard when it's just the basics. ^_^ But will probably enroll in a language school if money permits. *lol*
